Group Facilitation

Group Facilitation

Whether you’re a young LGBTIQA+ person, or the loved one or ally to queer folk, our in-house psychoeducation and support groups are here to help you navigate different aspects of LGBTIQA+ life.

Rotating through different topics and themes across sessions, all of Freedom’s groups have an LGBTIQA+ lens informed by lived experience and contemporary research.

Freedom’s Current Groups:

  • Freedom Families – Parents, guardians and allies (LGBTIQA+ and non-LGBTIQA+ alike) are invited to learn specific information to help you understand and support young queer people. This is a space to ask questions without fear of judgment, and receive insight from people with lived experience. Topics include:
    • LGBTIQA+ 101
    • Queer sex education
    • Gender diversity
    • Transgender experiences and transitioning
    • Sexuality diversity
  • Be Gay, Do Craft – Young LGBTIQA+ people aged 12-25 are invited to our art and crafts group where we discuss different topics while getting crafty. This is a great opportunity to meet other crafty queers and make connections within the LGBTIQA+ community. These sessions are about the process of making art, exercising creativity and being mindful – all artistic abilities are welcome!

Currently, Freedom Families runs on the third Monday of each month from 5-7pm.

Be Gay, Do Craft runs every Tuesday from 4:30-6pm, however session alternate weekly between Over 18s and Under 18s – you should attend the session that aligns with the appropriate age group. Please be mindful that our session times and dates may be subject to change. Click the links below to register and receive the latest information, or view our up to date calendar here

About Our Group Facilitators

  • Alex (she/her)

  • Bree (shey/they)

Where do our groups take place?

Held at the same location as our LGBTIQA+ drop-in service, our groups are run in either the gallery or gig space of The Y HQ, 60a Frame Ct Leederville.

If you have any accessibility requirements please feel free to reach out prior to an event, we will ensure we can accommodate to the best of our ability. Our groups are held on the ground floor of the building, which has ramp access and an accessible toilet (right hand transfer only).

Do I need to book in?

Yes please! It’s really helpful for us if you complete an online registration to your chosen group first. If you decide to just turn up we can register you at the door, however you might risk missing out on a spot.
